{"id":489962,"date":"2026-10-09T03:40:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T03:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/489962\/"},"modified":"2026-10-09T03:40:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T03:40:08","slug":"crews-make-progress-against-danny-fire-in-the-grapevine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/489962\/","title":{"rendered":"Crews make progress against Danny fire in the Grapevine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Crews battling a  fire  near the Grapevine in Gorman have stopped the blaze\u2019s forward progress, officials say. <\/p>\n<p>The Danny fire prompted an evacuation order Thursday evening and closed a stretch of the 5 Freeway. <\/p>\n<p>The Los Angeles County Fire Department said in a statement shortly before 5 p.m. that its crews were responding to a 10-acre brush fire in Gorman. <\/p>\n<p>Around 5:45 p.m., the department said the blaze, dubbed the Danny fire, had spurred an <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/protect.genasys.com\/en\/map\/34.729246%2C-118.764359?lat=34.7292&amp;lng=-118.7644&amp;z=10.9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">evacuation order<\/a> for an area roughly bounded by Old Ridge Road to the east and Interstate 5 near Bald Mountain in the west. As of about 6:45 p.m., the fire had blackened about 140 acres and was 7% contained, according to the <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fire.ca.gov\/incidents\/2026\/10\/8\/danny-fire\/updates\/fa72b4c6-4f37-47a0-8c88-64af770a8c1e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cGather family, pets, and LEAVE NOW,\u201d the alert read. \u201cYour safety is in danger if you stay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evacuation warnings were issued for nearby areas including in the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area.<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Aaron Katon said the fire was threatening about 40 structures in the area where the evacuation order was issued.<\/p>\n<p>Forward progress on the fire, now 13% contained, was stopped shortly after 7:10 p.m., according to a department <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LACoFDPIO\/status\/2108380767504195731?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">statement<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>There are no known injuries, Katon said.<\/p>\n<p>The department deployed numerous fire engines, bulldozers, four helicopters, two air tankers and two \u201csuper scooper\u201d aircrafts, Katon said.<\/p>\n<p>Sgt. Christian Stevens, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol Southern Division, said that the 5 Freeway was shut down in both directions in the Grapevine, near Smokey Bear Road, from about 4:30 p.m. to around 6:30, at which point some lanes were reopened.<\/p>\n<p>Stevens said the closures were necessary because smoke was affecting road visibility.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Cal Fire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Crews battling a fire near the Grapevine in Gorman have stopped the blaze\u2019s forward progress, officials say.
