{"id":490819,"date":"2026-10-09T22:08:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T22:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/490819\/"},"modified":"2026-10-09T22:08:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T22:08:09","slug":"oakland-woman-charged-with-killing-pedestrian-whod-tripped-crossing-foothill-boulevard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/490819\/","title":{"rendered":"Oakland woman charged with killing pedestrian who&#8217;d tripped crossing Foothill Boulevard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN LEANDRO \u2014 An Oakland woman has been arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter for allegedly hitting a pedestrian after he slipped and fell on a roadway, then driving off a few moments later.<\/p>\n<p>Shameka Edwards, 51, was charged with killing 60-year-old Michael Adams in the Sept. 18 crash. Edwards was released after Judge Diane Meier set her bail at $1,000. She is set to enter a plea on Oct. 16, court records show.<\/p>\n<p>California Highway Patrol investigators say Adams was crossing Foothill Boulevard in San Leandro, near Fairmount Avenue, when he slipped and fell. A witness told police he was still lying on the roadway when a while SUV collided with him. The CHP alleges the SUV was traveling faster than other vehicles and briefly stopped for long enough to assess that Adams was seriously hurt, then drove away.<\/p>\n<p>Edwards was identified from surveillance footage of the crash, authorities said. She was arrested on Sept. 30.<\/p>\n<p>In court filings, police noted that Edwards had been involved in two perplexing crashes before allegedly killing Adams. One involved her allegedly driving into a ditch in Oakland, near a construction site. The other involved her allegedly rear-ending another vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Adams was killed a little before 8 p.m. on Sept. 18, at almost exactly the same time a person was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2026\/09\/19\/chp-investigating-pedestrian-fatality-on-i-880-in-oakland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">struck and killed on Interstate 880 in Oakland<\/a>.
