With handmade posters and unbridled angst, one San Francisco woman brought a crowd of strangers together to holler at the Pacific \u2014 and hopefully feel better afterward.<\/p>\n

More than 100 people showed up to Vista Del Mar in San Francisco to scream at the sea on Sept. 12, 2026.\u00a0(Anna Vignet\/KQED)<\/p>\n

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, a crowd of roughly 100 people gathered along the cliffs of San Francisco\u2019s <\/a>Sutro Heights, answering Danielle Egan\u2019s invitation to square off against the waves<\/a> \u2014 and scream.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think screaming is just more fun with friends,\u201d said Egan, who christened the gathering \u201cGuttural Scream at the Sea\u201d and hung posters<\/a> inviting strangers to participate.<\/p>\n

As self-appointed \u201cscream conductor,\u201d Egan led the crowd in a collective wail \u2014 then presided over a screaming competition with points for volume, length and style. The loudest reached an ear-straining 121.9 decibels.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s lots of things to scream about these days,\u201d Egan said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She said that she hopes this will be the first of many Guttural Screams to come.<\/p>\n
