Photo courtesy Long Beach Police Department<\/p>\n<p>                    Become a Watchdog today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"is-body\">\n                    Sign up to get the latest from Long Beach&#8217;s independent, journalist-owned newsroom in your email.\n                <\/p>\n<p>\u2014 or sign up with \u2014<\/p>\n<p>Police are asking the public&#8217;s help in identifying the vehicle and driver involved in a hit-and-run crash last month that <a href=\"https:\/\/lbwatchdog.com\/man-killed-after-hit-and-run-driver-knocks-him-on-metro-tracks-police-say\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">killed a 73-year-old woman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Long Beach police say the driver of a silver Ford Mustang was heading eastbound on Willow Street before turning southbound onto Long Beach Boulevard around 8:52 p.m. on Sept. 5. The Mustang then hit Tate Song, who was walking on Long Beach Boulevard. <\/p>\n<p>Song died of her injuries at the scene, according to the LBPD.<\/p>\n<p>The driver of the Mustang did not stop after the crash, but then headed southbound on Pasadena Avenue toward 20th Street, police said.<\/p>\n<p>A surveillance camera photo of the Mustang released by police shows that it has a black convertible top, black stripes and black rims.<\/p>\n<p>Police initially said Song was also struck by a Metro train after being hit by the Mustang, but now say the train did not hit Song.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen the crash or has information on the vehicle or driver to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Edwin Paredes at 562-570-5130.<\/p>\n<p>This was the 36th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.<\/p>\n<p>The LBPD has reported 44 traffic fatalities so far this year.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\uddde\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Pignataro is an editor at Long Beach Watchdog.
