Well, that was a triumph.

Even if it was one of the most chaotic football games you could possibly imagine.

The 49ers went into the locker room at halftime up 21-13 despite accomplishing very little on offense. Seattle basically wrapped up three touchdowns with a bow and left them on Kyle Shanahan’s doorstep.

A brain-dead interception, a sloppy fumble and then the coup de grâce: a bizarre strip-sack fumble recovered inside the Seahawks’ own end zone with mere seconds remaining in the second quarter and Seattle just trying to run out the clock.

The Niners had three touchdowns with their scoring drives totaling 29 yards of offense.

And then, nice guys they are, the Niners decided to return the favor to Seattle in the second half.

A brutal interception from Purdy, a hamstring-pop-induced fumble from Deebo Samuel and a missed field goal gave the Seahawks every reason to think they were about to get away with it — again.

Seattle took a five-point lead, the crowd was testing the seismograph and the Niners’ funeral dirge for their early-season hype was being pulled out of folders to be played on the way out of town.

Then Purdy and Evans decided to make some music of their own.

And baby, it was jazz.

San Francisco managed a pathetic 104 net yards on its first 10 drives.

Evans and Purdy put up 75 yards by themselves on the 11th.

Forget dash motion and the complicated diagrams. When the world is on fire, you stop worrying about secondary reads and you let your heavyweights throw hands.

Pocket crumbling? Purdy stood and delivered a 15-yard bullet over the middle to Evans, who absorbed a hit straight to his fractured ribs.

Then came a 9-yard contested catch because Evans treats 50-50 balls like 100 percent certainties.

Triple coverage converging down the seam? Didn’t matter; Evans — breaking every rule of Shanahan’s offense in the process — spun Josh Jobe into a pretzel to give himself enough space to catch one for 23 yards.

Then the officiating crew chimed in with a clown-car intentional grounding penalty on Purdy.

The response was ruthlessly simple: Purdy told Evans to run straight down the sideline and uncorked a perfect 28-yard rainbow directly into his breadbasket.

Brandin Cooks (whose name might speak to the state of the Niners’ receiver room) caught the go-ahead touchdown on a quick-slant dart two plays later. And when the necessary two-point conversion play broke down, Purdy scrambled around, reversed field and drilled a laser into Evans’ chest through a wall of defenders.

Evans played through pure agony against the NFL’s nastiest defense, offering up his torso for the cause.

Purdy — all 6-foot-1 of him (if that) — stood tall amid a sea of blue and green and threw missiles into windows that didn’t exist.

Sure, we’ll spend the rest of the week raving about rookie defensive tackle Gracen Halton wreaking havoc, rookie linebacker Jaden Dugger flying around the field, or second-year standout cornerback Renardo Green looking like Charles Woodson.

And yes, Seattle fans will whine endlessly about Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s shocking drop on the Seahawks’ final drive and the officials’ guesstimated spot on the game-sealing fourth-down play to Cooper Kupp that followed it.

Let them complain. The baseline truth of this game was undeniable:

The football was in Purdy’s hands when everything was on the line, and he knew the exact right set of hands to share the load.

For the last two seasons, the Niners’ battered offense survived on a simple premise: Nobody in red and gold can separate from pressing cornerbacks, so let’s throw contested passes to Jauan Jennings and pray.

Now Purdy is making those same bold throws to a guy with over 13,000 career yards. It’s funny how much better that looks.

“The aura, just a walking aura,” Fred Warner said of Evans after the game. “I can’t help it, I’m on the sideline watching him do crazy stuff, and I’m like, ‘We have Mike Evans.’ I can’t believe it.”

Yes, the 49ers needed a gritty 36-yard ground drive to bleed the clock and kick the winning field goal after the Seahawks tied the game at 29 following the Purdy-to-Evans drive.

That’s just semantics. And that game could not be properly explained by words. (Try as some might.)

We all know what the real game-winning drive was.

San Francisco could have curled into the fetal position and cursed the football gods (or Silicon Valley power) for yet another cursed season weeks ago.

Instead, they figured out a way to roll with the punches and have depth players punch up. That gave them a shot at winning Sunday.

But it’s the cornerstone players — the franchise quarterback and the mercenary legend — who put them over the top.

Yes, survivalism is a messy art form, but the 49ers, led by Purdy and Evans, have become masters of the craft.

The 49ers are battered, bruised and routinely playing guys who coaches don’t particularly want on the field or…

[30
13734,949,402,181,752,101,296,103,102,6427,104,106,105,127,1326
post-493191","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-san-francisco","tag-49ers-hq","tag-football","tag-inside-sports","tag-latest-headlines","tag-nfl","tag-san-francisco","tag-san-francisco-49ers","tag-san-francisco-headlines","tag-san-francisco-news","tag-seattle-seahawks","tag-sf","tag-sf-headlines","tag-sf-news","tag-sports","tag-sports-columnists
["GET
