Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass joined leaders from Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), a subsidiary of Sempra, alongside public officials and community leaders, for a ceremony celebrating SoCalGas\u2019 new headquarters in Downtown Los Angeles on Oct. 6.<\/p>\n
SoCalGas\u2019 relocation to 2CAL at 350 S. Grand Avenue marks a new chapter in the company\u2019s nearly 160-year history in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
\u201cDowntown LA serves as the economic, cultural and civic heart of our city and is essential to a vibrant Los Angeles,\u201d Bass said. \u201cWe celebrate SoCalGas\u2019 continued commitment to Los Angeles and its role in supporting the revitalization and success of our city and its core.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cFor nearly 160 years, SoCalGas has provided safe, affordable and reliable energy that has helped Los Angeles grow, powering homes and businesses across the region,\u201d said Caroline Winn, chair of the board of SoCalGas. \u201cFrom our earliest days lighting Main Street with gas lamps to serving more than 21 million consumers today, we are proud to continue building on that legacy. As we begin this next chapter in Downtown Los Angeles, we remain committed to strengthening the communities we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event also brought together Assemblymember Mark Gonz\u00e1lez and other business and community leaders.<\/p>\n
\u201cSoCalGas has been a longstanding community partner: investing in our neighborhoods, supporting local organizations and helping improve the quality of life for the people it serves,\u201d said Assemblymember Gonz\u00e1lez. \u201cThis commitment is one of the many reasons the company continues to be such a vital part of Los Angeles and Southern California.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSoCalGas has been part of the Downtown LA community for generations, and we are proud to celebrate this milestone with them,\u201d said Nella McOsker, president and chief executive officer of the Central City Association of Los Angeles. \u201cWe applaud them for keeping hundreds of jobs in our city\u2019s central business district, helping support a vibrant and thriving downtown.\u201d<\/p>\n
Founded as the Los Angeles Gas Company in 1867, the company helped illuminate a growing city with gas lamps along Main Street near what is now Los Angeles Plaza. Nearly 160 years later, SoCalGas remains headquartered in Downtown Los Angeles, having relocated within the city\u2019s core only three times throughout its history.<\/p>\n
As one of the largest employers in Downtown Los Angeles, SoCalGas will have more than 700 employees working from its new headquarters at 2CAL, where the company serves as the building\u2019s anchor tenant.<\/p>\n
