FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — With a vote in the House scheduled for Wednesday that could reopen the government, travel concerns ahead of the busy holiday season remain.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said more air traffic controllers are coming into work but there’s still worry over safety.<\/p>\n
“This has all been databased. We’ve seen incursions on runways, we’ve seen loss of separation in the airspace, and we’ve seen heightened complaints by pilots of the communication they’re having with air traffic controllers. When this information goes in the wrong direction, we have to make decisions to keep people safe,” said Duffy.<\/p>\n
While impacts to travelers out of Fresno have been minimal so far, those leaving or arriving at major hubs like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Salt Lake are seeing a greater impact.<\/p>\n
Across the nation, rental car companies say they’re seeing a spike in reservations.<\/p>\n
Hertz reports a 20 percent increase in rentals because of flight delays and cancellations. But back at home — Action News spoke to a Hertz representative in Fresno who said it’s business as usual– for now.<\/p>\n
With the holidays around the corner, travel experts encourage people to be cautious as the potential for more cars on the road can create more hazards on the highway.<\/p>\n
“Obviously, with more people on the road, with more traffic, it’s going to be a little more difficult to navigate, to make your exit, to get over a lane when you need to so definitely keep your eyes on the road,” said AAA spokesman Doug Johnson.<\/p>\n
If you plan to travel by plane, train or automobile in the coming weeks, experts recommend checking the status of your flight or train often to get ahead of cancellations or delays.<\/p>\n
And if you’re taking to the road, fuel in California is currently up almost $0.20 a gallon compared to this time last year due to the El Segundo refinery fire last month.<\/p>\n
