Drivers and residents will notice Monday that four automated speed-enforcement systems containing eight cameras have been installed at intersections in Los Angeles City Council District 5 and can be seen reacting to speeding motorists without taking them to task..<\/p>\n
The first of the cameras was scheduled to begin operating Oct. 26 as part of a citywide effort to curb dangerous driving, according to a statement from Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky, who represents CD 5, which includes communities on the Westside and Mid-City areas.<\/p>\n
They were installed at the intersections of La Brea Avenue and First Street, Fairfax Avenue and Clinton Street, Melrose and Hayworth avenues, and La Cienega and Pico boulevards, she said.<\/p>\n
The cameras are not yet active, and motorists are not currently receiving warnings or citations from them.<\/p>\n
But news video showed the shiny new camera at La Brea Avenue and First Street flashing repeatedly when vehicles sped by.<\/p>\n
When the systems are activated, drivers traveling 11 mph or more above the posted speed limit will receive warnings during an initial 60-day period.
