{"id":493645,"date":"2026-10-12T15:54:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-12T15:54:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/493645\/"},"modified":"2026-10-12T15:54:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-12T15:54:07","slug":"fire-burns-abandoned-problem-property-church-in-south-la-nbc-los-angeles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/493645\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire burns abandoned \u2018problem property\u2019 church in South LA \u2013 NBC Los Angeles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An abandoned church in the historic South Central area of Los Angeles caught on fire overnight.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fire began at around 3:30 a.m. on the 2600 block of Paloma Street.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Crouch Memorial Church of God and Christ was already causing concern among residents who say the abandoned structure has become a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/local\/south-la-abandoned-church\/3937408\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">site for squatters and illegal dumping<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It had caught on fire twice before, in 2024 and in 2013 and has since sustained major damage.<\/p>\n<p>Over 100 firefighters arrived on the scene to try to stop the flames from reaching nearby homes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A woman who was described as a resident who was in the area was evaluated. No firefighters were injured in the fire.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It was not clear what caused the fire.
