A 29-year-old reality TV personality was killed early Sunday in Oakland, in the second local incident of violence in a week that’s been linked to a show with the word ‘Baddies’ in the title.<\/p>\n
Richmond resident Mackayla Paige, known as Kash, was shot just after 1:30 am Sunday on the 200 block of 14th Street in downtown Oakland. As KTVU reports<\/a>, police responded to the scene, which appeared to be centered on Cave Lounge \u2014 where Saturday night was billed as a birthday party<\/a> for Bay Area-based DJ Butta Smoove. The shooting appears to have occurred outside the venue.<\/p>\n As the Chronicle reports<\/a>, Oakland police quickly arrested another Richmond woman in connection with the shooting, but her name has not been released, and no motive has been discussed.<\/p>\n Internet rumor<\/a> and some video that’s been linked the fight<\/a> suggests that Paige may have been shot by her own friend or a member of her entourage who had pulled out a gun after Paige became involved in an altercation with someone else, and the gun went off accidentally, shooting Paige, as the friend was attempting to pistol-whip Paige’s attacker.<\/p>\n Paige was a featured personality on a reality TV series on the Nyx Network called Real West Coast Baddies, a series that appears to be inspired by and similar to the Baddies franchise, though not directly linked to it. Both shows have had multiple seasons, and feature a predominantly African American cast interacting \u2014 often violently \u2014 at private homes and public events. Baddies, a spiritual successor to Bad Girls Club, is produced by Oakland native Natalie Nunn, and a recent episode being shot at the Warfield in San Francisco led to the fatal shooting of a security guard<\/a>. That shooting occurred almost exactly a week before this one, on October 3.<\/p>\n Kash reportedly also appeared on the streaming series Young and Reckless and Room H8’s<\/a> on the platform NowThatsTV<\/a>.<\/p>\n Her close friend Poodahh, who had the phrase “Spoil Me With Kash” tattooed on her hand, tells KTVU, “Oh my God, she was so fun,” adding, “She’s not gone. I can’t speak [of] her in the past tense.”<\/p>\n And Nicky Clayton, identified as Kash’s cousin, told the station, “She wanted to be famous so bad. She still had morals, don’t get me wrong. She wanted to be a reality star.
