The Sacramento Republic FC staff took a break from the soccer pitch to focus on a day of service on a different kind of landscape: The Bufferlands.<\/p>\n

Several dozen office staff and volunteers honored Indigenous Peoples Day by planting acorns and grasses on a 2,100-acre property surrounding Sacramento County’s sewer treatment facilities.<\/p>\n

“The Wilton Rancheria has a rich history in this area and this is our way of giving back and honoring those indigenous to this area,” said John Jacobs, Sac Republic FC’s VP of communications.<\/p>\n

The Bufferlands were created to create a natural buffer between the noise, dust and odor of the treatment facility with surrounding homes.<\/p>\n

The trees and grasses will further improve habitat for various ecosystems and wildlife.<\/p>\n

The area is located east of Interstate 5 south to the north of Laguna Boulevard. <\/p>\n
