SAN JOSE \u2014 A man who was viciously assaulted at a North San Jose light rail station late last month<\/a> has died from his injuries, authorities announced, and the suspect arrested in the attack could soon face a murder charge as a result.<\/p>\n

The assault was reported just before midnight Sept. 29 at the Gish station at East Gish Road and North First Street. Responding deputies with the Santa Clara County Sheriff\u2019s Office \u2014 which polices Valley Transportation Authority transit lines \u2014 found a 42-year-old man suffering from serious head injuries.<\/p>\n

An investigation determined that he had been severely beaten, and he was taken to a hospital. The sheriff\u2019s office said that he died around 11 p.m. Wednesday, 10 days after he was injured. His name has not been publicly released by county Medical Examiner-Coroner\u2019s Office. <\/p>\n

A few hours after the assault, deputies arrested 23-year-old Brandon Fryshaw, and he has been held at the county Main Jail in San Jose ever since. Jail records show he is being held without bail after being booked on suspicion of attempted murder, which is expected to be revised to murder in light of the victim\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

The sheriff\u2019s office said detectives are investigating his connection to a separate assault, also in late September, of another unhoused person at the St. James light rail station in downtown San Jose.<\/p>\n
