Marin County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Miguel Almaguer said the preliminary investigation indicates the case appears to be a murder-suicide involving three family members.<\/p>\n
Neighbors expressed shock and grief Monday as flowers and memorial tributes appeared outside the home.<\/p>\n
Family friend and former congressional candidate Marie Hurabiell said she was devastated by the loss of Ann Mannix and her daughter. Hurabiell said Mannix had recently been going through a divorce and described her as someone who remained optimistic despite personal challenges.<\/p>\n
‘She acknowledged divorce was not fun or easy, but to have this happen right after she was so full of hope and joy and life,” Marie Hurabiel said.<\/p>\n
Ann Mannix leaves behind a lasting legacy within the San Francisco Police Department. She was the first woman to join and lead the department’s SWAT team and later rose through the ranks to become deputy chief, overseeing field operations and special operations before retiring in 2021.<\/p>\n
In a statement, San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew called the incident “all the more difficult to process” given its apparent circumstances and extended condolences to the family, friends and colleagues affected by the tragedy.<\/p>\n
The San Francisco Police Officers Association also mourned the loss, describing Mannix as a trailblazer and acknowledging the profound impact the tragedy has had on the department.<\/p>\n
Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active, and autopsies were scheduled for Tuesday. A motive has not been released.<\/p>\n
Ann Mannix is survived by two adult children, according to friends and family.<\/p>\n
“I’ll say one thing about Ann, she made you feel everything would be OK,” Marie Hurabiell added.<\/p>\n
