{"id":494517,"date":"2026-10-13T09:10:25","date_gmt":"2026-10-13T09:10:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/494517\/"},"modified":"2026-10-13T09:10:25","modified_gmt":"2026-10-13T09:10:25","slug":"big-waves-and-high-tides-expected-to-batter-san-diego-coast-another-day-as-rain-moves-out-san-diego-union-tribune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/494517\/","title":{"rendered":"Big waves and high tides expected to batter San Diego coast another day as rain moves out \u2013 San Diego Union-Tribune"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As San Diego County begins to dry out from the first major storm of the rainy season, the coast will continue to be pounded by a combination of high tides and big waves generated by Tropical Storm Rachel.<\/p>\n<p>A coastal flood advisory remains in effect through Tuesday afternoon, with particular attention paid to peak high tide Tuesday between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n<p>Rachel and another smaller system dumped rain across the region beginning Saturday \u2014 1.04 inches at San Diego International Airport, 1.93 inches in Carlsbad and 2 to 3 inches in many inland and backcountry areas, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=sgx&amp;issuedby=SGX&amp;product=RRM\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">three-day totals<\/a>. Still, it was the crushing waves combined with high tides along the coast that made the storm especially dramatic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe knew this was coming,\u201d said Paul Steward, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. \u201cBut I was taken aback a little bit by the seas being higher than predicted.
