El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells\u2019 DSA Opponent Scrubs DSA Website of Endorsement<\/a><\/p>\n

El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells is in a tough reelection campaign and his opponent is Alexander Kraft, a self-described socialist.<\/p>\n

You may remember El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells from California Globe reports earlier this year when he asked the California Department of Justice a simple question, \u201cIf a child in our city is being sex-trafficked by an illegal alien, can we at least do a welfare check on that child?\u201d The answer he received was \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Attorney General\u2019s office told Mayor Wells, \u201cThat would violate SB-54.\u201d Wells posted his reply on X: \u201cNo workaround. No alternative. No explanation for how you\u2019re supposed to save that child. That\u2019s what California\u2019s sanctuary law protects. Not the child. The trafficker.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wells and the America First Policy Institute filed a lawsuit against California Attorney General Rob Bonta over SB 54, California\u2019s \u201csanctuary state\u201d law. Shielding illegal immigrants violates federal immigration law, but does not prohibit enforcing state criminal laws, including those against human trafficking, child sexual exploitation, child abuse, or endangerment, which Wells said makes the AG\u2019s response perplexing, and thus the lawsuit.<\/p>\n

UC got rid of the SAT in admissions. It may be on its way back<\/a><\/p>\n

Ever since the University of California stopped using the SAT and ACT for freshman admissions in 2020, graduation rates have inched up, and the number of students returning for their second year of studies increased.<\/p>\n

To backers of keeping the UC test-free, these are clear signs that ditching the SAT hasn\u2019t resulted in broad academic declines at the venerable public university system.<\/p>\n

But this progress is likely to compete with another truth: Thousands of UC professors say their students are absolutely not ready for college and blame the decision to cut the SAT. Now UC leaders are re-examining what, if anything, the system should do about the standardized tests the UC scrapped six years ago.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s Midway Rising Week<\/a><\/p>\n

With fewer than two months left in the exclusive negotiating agreement between the city of San Diego and the Midway Rising development team, the City Council will begin discussing the actual deal staff has hashed out.<\/p>\n

The Land Use and Housing Committee will consider the proposed lease and details of the deal at a special meeting Friday, Oct. 16.<\/p>\n

Friday, city staff released its report on the proposal, which you can read here. The city claims it will be the largest affordable housing project in the state of California.<\/p>\n
