The San Francisco Police Department was in mourning Tuesday after a trailblazing police officer and her husband, who also had worked for the department, were found dead along with their daughter in what investigators are calling a \u201csuspected double-murder suicide.\u201d<\/p>\n
Retired Sgt. Kevin Mannix, 68, fatally shot his wife, Ann Mannix, 64, a retired deputy chief, and their 24-year-old daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Mannix, around 5 p.m. Sunday before turning the gun on himself, the Marin County Sheriff\u2019s Office said. <\/p>\n
Police found their bodies after responding to a home in a neighborhood just north of the city following a 911 call from a person \u201cwho safely exited the residence.\u201d<\/p>\n
Investigators have not released a motive for the mayhem and autopsies were scheduled Tuesday for all three individuals. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the San Francisco PD was trying to absorb the loss.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe tragic loss of retired Deputy Chief Ann Mannix, her daughter Katie, and retired Sergeant Kevin Mannix in a suspected murder-suicide has left our entire SFPD family reeling,\u201d the San Francisco Police Officers Association said in a statement<\/a> posted online. \u201cThere are no words that can fully capture the depth of this tragedy, nor are there simple answers to the painful questions we are all asking.\u201d<\/p>\n Kevin Mannix worked for the SFPD for 27 years before retiring from the department in 2018 with the rank of sergeant, according to the department.<\/a><\/p>\n But it was his wife who left the biggest mark on the department.<\/p>\n
