Students in the Center for Global Law and Policy visited the Santa Clara County Superior Court, where they observed a civil Law and Motion calendar and spoke with a sitting judge about the proceedings.<\/p>\n
On Friday, September 18, students from the Center for Global Law and Policy (CGLP) visited the Santa Clara County Superior Court in downtown San Jose for an in-person look at how civil litigation works. The visit was led by Michael W. Flynn, Associate Dean for Global Engagement and Clinical Professor of Law at Santa Clara University School of Law.<\/p>\n
The group observed a civil Law and Motion calendar in Department 16, with Judge Harris presiding. Before the hearing, Dean Flynn shared the court’s tentative rulings so students could review them in advance, and he explained how a party contests a tentative ruling and how to read the underlying filings. Students then watched attorneys present their arguments and respond to the court in real time. Afterward, Judge Iravani-Sani spoke with the group and answered their questions about the proceedings.<\/p>\n
