It brings in parts, components, and raw materials, and facilitates the export of finished goods that businesses are built on. Any delay at the port can idle a factory floor miles away, and added costs at the docks inevitably hurt the bottom line.<\/p>\n<p>Our region relies on good manufacturing jobs, and many of them depend on port leadership that can make timely decisions and stay competitive with gateways in other states and countries that are eager to lay claim to LA\u2019s cargo.<\/p>\n<p>The charter is the city\u2019s constitution, not an operations manual.
