{"id":495921,"date":"2026-10-14T15:12:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-14T15:12:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/495921\/"},"modified":"2026-10-14T15:12:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-14T15:12:07","slug":"berkeley-suspect-arrested-in-hit-and-run-crash-that-injured-two","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/495921\/","title":{"rendered":"Berkeley: Suspect arrested in hit-and-run crash that injured two"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BERKELEY \u2014 A person suspected of driving a vehicle involved in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2026\/10\/08\/couple-severely-injured-in-berkeley-hit-and-run\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hit-and-run crash that injured two elderly people<\/a> last week has been arrested, police said.<\/p>\n<p>The crash on Oct. 7 ended with a 78-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman suffering serious injuries and hospitalized. It happened at University Avenue and Eighth Street.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, police said they arrested the 22-year-old Richmond man on suspicion of two counds of felony hit-and-run. They found him after obtaining information from automated license plate readers in Berkeley and Emeryville and security footage from nearby businesses to identify him. A witness also followed the vehicle as it drove away following the crash and provided police with a description of it.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators used the information to obtain an arrest warrant.
