The source with knowledge of the matter confirmed the newspaper\u2019s reporting was accurate.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix remains one of the titans of streaming, but it has struggled to boost user engagement on the platform. The service\u2019s users watched more than 97 billion hours of content in the first half of 2026, an increase of 2% year-over-year, according to the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/s22.q4cdn.com\/959853165\/files\/doc_financials\/2026\/q2\/FINAL-Q2-26-Shareholder-Letter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">most recent quarterly earnings report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOverall, we\u2019re not growing as fast as I want us to, and we\u2019re working on making that move faster,\u201d Sarandos said at Bloomberg\u2019s annual media conference late last month.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix is expected to report its third-quarter financial results next Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The majority of the job cuts will be concentrated in Netflix\u2019s product, technology, legal and human-resources teams.<\/p>\n<p>Peters and Sarandos said the streaming firm will \u201ccontinue to invest aggressively in high impact areas\u201d while also \u201cmaking focused choices across the business so we can keep delivering for our members, partners, employees and investors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In recent months, Netflix has looked for ways to boost subscriber engagement, including adding live sports programming and video podcasts licensed from third-party companies such as Bill Simmons\u2019 The Ringer.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix\u2019s layoffs come as other major Hollywood studios look to reduce costs and streamline operations. <\/p>\n<p>The Walt Disney Co. has cut hundreds of jobs this year under new Chief Executive Josh D\u2019Amaro, according to a source familiar with the matter. David Ellison\u2019s Skydance is widely expected to shrink its work force across Paramount and Warner Bros.
