And they\u2019ll have\u00a0their\u00a0chance\u00a0this Saturday\u00a0at\u00a0what\u2019s become one of San Diego\u2019s more\u00a0sonically and visually\u00a0entertaining\u00a0traditions, the annual\u00a0HalloWomen\u00a0Spooktacular<\/a> Saturday at Winstons Beach Club in\u00a0Ocean Beach.<\/p>\n The Spooktacular, now in its third year,\u00a0is an annual\u00a0Halloween-themed concert\u00a0that\u00a0also\u00a0includes a costume contest.\u00a0But the event is a little different from\u00a0many concerts\u00a0that happen\u00a0around town \u2013\u00a0all the main performers are women.<\/p>\n For singers Sara Jade and Jessie Lark, this will be their third Spooktacular, while Celina\u00a0Rescott\u00a0and her band, the Embers, will be playing the event for the first time this year.<\/p>\n The concept,\u00a0Lark told\u00a0Times of San Diego, was\u00a0Jade\u2019s brainchild.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s kind of got this\u00a0spooky aesthetic going on\u00a0and she loves Halloween,\u00a0and she was like,\u00a0\u2018I\u2019ve\u00a0always wanted to do this big Halloween show\u2019,\u201d Lark said. \u201cThis was three years ago now. And then one of the girls was like, we should call it the\u00a0HalloWomen\u2019s\u00a0Spooktacular,\u201d she added.\u00a0\u201cAnd we all got kind of jazzed on the idea.\u201d<\/p>\n The first show, in 2024, was so successful and\u00a0delivered such\u00a0good vibes\u00a0that\u00a0all the participating bands\u00a0ran it back the following year and again\u00a0found success.\u00a0Thus, it\u2019s\u00a0become\u00a0an annual tradition.<\/p>\n This will be the first time, however, that the\u00a0party\u2019s being held at Winston\u2019s,\u00a0a 200-person capacity venue that\u00a0had an ownership<\/a> shift\u00a0last month and is on the cusp of an official name change\u00a0\u2013 to The Mix OB.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re hoping to bring the venue to capacity and just have a really amazing fun music party,\u201d\u00a0Lark\u00a0said. \u201cThat\u2019s the vision.\u201d<\/p>\n She added\u00a0that\u00a0as\u00a0per usual,\u00a0all the bands will dress up in costumes, although she declined to say what she and\u00a0her fellow musicians\u00a0would be wearing, so as not to ruin the surprise.\u00a0Also, she\u00a0said,\u00a0prizes\u00a0will\u00a0be awarded to\u00a0winners\u00a0of\u00a0the costume contest.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have a few sponsors\u00a0\u2013\u00a0WildCat\u00a0Guitars out of Escondido,\u00a0they always give us like T-shirts and hoodies and stuff like that. TMC\u00a0The\u00a0Music\u00a0Company in Pacific Beach, last year they gave us some gift certificates for free studio time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n This year\u2019s concert comes at an exciting time for Lark.\u00a0In early October, she released a new single, a cover of the classic \u201cGlory Box,\u201d originally recorded\u00a0by\u00a0British trip-hop band Portishead\u00a0in the mid-\u201990s.<\/p>\n \u201cMy husband and guitarist Kevin and\u00a0me both really love the\u00a0song,\u201d she said, adding that recording a cover was a nice change of pace because it\u2019s not as labor-intensive as creating a new tune from scratch.<\/p>\n<\/a>Sara Jade, who came up with the vision for the Hallowomen Spooktacular.
