LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) \u2014 A flash mob turned downtown Long Beach pink Tuesday night as part of the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights competition.<\/p>\n
Long Beach High School band members and cheerleaders took to the streets as part of the competition\u2019s Paint the Town Magenta challenge. The flash mob serves to rally the community around the school\u2019s football program. <\/p>\n
Long Beach High School is one of 40 finalists<\/a> out of nearly 2,500 applicants nationwide in T-Mobile\u2019s competition, which could bring major improvements to the school\u2019s athletic facilities.<\/p>\n The school earned $25,000 for making the top 40 and could bring home more. Winning the competition would earn the school $1 million toward stadium upgrades.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat would a million dollars toward the football program mean for this community? It\u2019s a little bit of extra work, a little bit of extra investment on us, but at the end of the day we are trying to provide the best opportunities we can for our people here in Long Beach,\u201d said Long Beach School District Athletic Director Bob Reeves.<\/p>\n Completing Tuesday night\u2019s challenge earns the school 5,000 extra votes in the contest.<\/p>\n People can also vote once a day through Oct. 25 online.<\/a><\/p>\n
