LA Conservancy is behind both screenings, and there are tours of the vintage venue for members. Tickets are still available, and you’ll want to dress in your best “Clue” or mountain wear, or perhaps an outfit that pays homage to the dearly missed Tim Curry, a star of the first film.

Original Farmers Market Fall Festival: You say you’ve been stomping and clapping and twanging it up at this wholesome autumn revelry since it was founded? My goodness: You’ve been enjoying this free 3rd & Fairfax festivity for over 90 years, then. It started in 1934, just a few months after the quaint public market debuted, and has brought delivered seasonal cheer, pigs for petting, and songs that often include a washboard and/or banjo. The hoedown is going down on Oct. 17 and 18, with craft-making and a pumpkin patch upping the general fall-a-tude.

Opera at the Beach and Opera in the Park: “Carmen” is the dramatic story unspooling, with fabulous flair and emotive performances, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion starting Oct. 17, but LA Opera aficionados don’t have to be in DTLA to enjoy the show. But there is a peaceful way to find the joys of the season, and a few spooky sights, too, and it doesn’t cost anything. This multi-night offering, which sprouts in Lake Forest each year, is about the serene side of autumn and Halloween, with decorations, lights, and a scavenger hunt to keep things a little lively. Leashed pups are welcome, too, sweet.
