SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) \u2014 Nordstrom Rack plans to return to downtown San Francisco with a new store near Union Square, scheduled to open in fall 2027.<\/p>\n

The 51,500-square-foot store will be located at 2 Stockton St., marking a new investment in the city\u2019s downtown retail district.<\/p>\n

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie welcomed the announcement, calling the retailer\u2019s return a sign of growing business confidence in the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cThree years ago, companies were leaving San Francisco. Today, they want to be here, and Nordstrom Rack\u2019s decision to return to the heart of our city is another sign of the growing confidence in San Francisco,\u201d Lurie said. \u201cWe\u2019re making our streets safer and cleaner, bringing people back downtown, cutting red tape, and creating the conditions for businesses to succeed I\u2019m thrilled that Nordstrom is choosing to invest in San Francisco again and look forward to welcoming Nordstrom Rack to 2 Stockton Street as we continue building on our city\u2019s momentum.\u201d<\/p>\n

The announcement comes after Nordstrom closed its five-story flagship store<\/a> at Westfield San Francisco Centre in August 2023, ending more than 35 years at the downtown location.<\/p>\n

Nordstrom also closed its nearby Nordstrom Rack location at 901 Market St. on July 1, 2023.<\/p>\n

At the time, the company cited declining customer foot traffic and significant changes in the downtown market as reasons for the closures.<\/p>\n
