(FOX40.COM) — Two people were arrested following a deputy pursuit involving a stolen car and a stolen dog on Wednesday in Sacramento County, officials said.

Around 1:55 p.m., deputies with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a green Toyota Corolla traveling on Elkhorn Boulevard after a FLOCK license plate recognition camera identified the vehicle as reported stolen on the day before from the Auburn area, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver, 19-year-old Givanna Ybarra, refused to pull over and swapped seats with her passenger, 38-year-old David Brocker. A police chase ensued. Brocker drove up to speeds around 95 MPH and repeatedly drove into oncoming traffic, the sheriff’s office said.

At one point, Brocker accelerated toward a California Highway Patrol officer, but a deputy prevented the crash by driving his patrol vehicle into Brocker’s vehicle. This collision did not stop Brocker, however, and he continued driving eastbound down on Madison Avenue toward Manzanita Avenue before turning onto Auburn Boulevard.

Deputies performed a PIT maneuver, but Brocker tried to drive away by reversing into a civilian’s vehicle.

Deputies ultimately blocked the stolen vehicle, but Brocker exited and attempted to run away. Officers quickly apprehended him and the stolen dog was recovered unharmed.

The civilian driver Brocker backed into was later taken to a local area hospital with complaints of pain.

Brocker and Ybarra were taken to a hospital for treatment before being booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. Brocker was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, animal cruelty, theft of the dog, resisting arrest, and a parole hold. Ybarra was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
