Burbank artist Alden Lo Bosco<\/a> captures local landmarks and beloved establishments, employing\u00a0a cartoony, pop-art style. His subjects are architectural profiles and historical homages, filled with nostalgic fondness: the site of a first date, a favorite hangout, a family tradition.<\/p>\n Lo Bosco has a soft spot for the structures and communities of the Eastside. There\u2019s the Well-Known (Tam O\u2019Shanter<\/a>, Tiki-Ti,<\/a> Jumbo\u2019s Clown Room<\/a>) and the Gone-But-Not-Forgotten (Taix). Lo Bosco is particularly fond of his version of Glassell Park\u2019s Dunsmoor<\/a> restaurant, with the intricate carvings on the restored 1929 Spanish Revival building.<\/p>\n

His girlfriend\u00a0bought him art supplies,\u00a0and he started drawing what was around him.<\/p>\n \u201cI grew\u00a0up on the East Coast, and L.A. is a weird and wonderful world,\u201d he said. \u201cI wanted to make a fun, whimsical version that truly already exists.\u201d<\/p>\n Highland Park\u2019s Highland Theatre is among the local landmarks reimagined by Alden Lo Bosco.<\/p>\n Courtesy of Alden Lo Bosco<\/p>\n
Bob\u2019s Big\u00a0Boy and the Smokehouse\u00a0were his first forays. Posting them on Instagram, Lo Bosco was hit up\u00a0by\u00a0people asking for copies and prints.<\/p>\n The fan base grew, as did Lo Bosco\u2019s portfolio.<\/p>\n Today, you can find Lo Bosco’s work on Etsy<\/a>, at farmers\u2019 markets and in local stores such as Eagle Rock\u2019s Leanna Lin\u2019s Wonderland<\/a>.
