A funeral Mass for retired San Francisco police Deputy Chief Ann Mannix and her 24-year-old daughter, Katherine “Katie” Mannix, is scheduled for next Friday in San Francisco.

The Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 23 at St. Ignatius Church, 650 Parker Ave., according to a family obituary. The parish confirmed that the service will be open to the public as space allows and will be livestreamed on the St. Ignatius website.

The announcement comes after a planned San Francisco Police Department tribute to honor Ann Mannix, who was killed alongside Katie in a Marin County murder-suicide, was canceled this week due to a “tremendous outpouring” of support for the slain police officer, officials said.

The family obituary offers a glimpse of the lives the women led away from the police department.

Mannix, born in San Francisco in 1961, spent 34 years with SFPD and retired as a deputy chief. She was a fourth-generation San Franciscan and a graduate of George Washington High School and Loyola Marymount University.

She was also a pioneer within the department, becoming the first woman to join and later lead its SWAT team. She went on to oversee the Field Operations and Special Operations bureaus before retiring in 2021.

The obituary said Mannix was known for her devotion to family and community, compassion for loved ones and ability to crack a joke during tense moments. She enjoyed tennis, watching the San Francisco 49ers and Golden State Warriors, and spending time with her dogs, Cooper, Frankie and Max.

Katie Mannix was born in San Francisco in 2001 and grew up in Marin County. She graduated from Redwood High School in 2020 and later spent time in Santa Barbara, where she built a circle of lifelong friends.

She was studying to become a nurse, following the path of her older sister, Lauren, and had been completing clinical rotations while working as a certified nursing assistant at a local hospital, according to the obituary.

Friends and family remembered Katie for her playful personality, smile and distinctive sense of humor. She enjoyed going into San Francisco with friends, arts and crafts, trying new restaurants with her siblings and playing with her kitten, Suki.

The mother and daughter were killed Oct. 11 at the family’s home in Strawberry, an unincorporated community near Mill Valley.

Their deaths, along with that of Ann Mannix’s estranged husband, retired SFPD Sgt. Kevin Mannix, have shaken the San Francisco Police Department and the family’s wider circle of friends and relatives.

Marin County authorities have said Kevin Mannix, 68, fatally shot his wife and daughter before killing himself. The investigation remains ongoing.

Ann Mannix’s former colleagues have described her as a trailblazer who opened doors for women within SFPD.

Her brother, retired SFPD Commander Richard Corriea, and other friends have also spoken about her close relationships with her children and the life she continued to build after retiring from the department.

The family obituary said Ann and Katie’s love will live on through Ann’s surviving children, Lauren and Kevin Mannix, and other relatives.
