The indoor trampoline park’s 17-year lease is reportedly set to expire.

“For years, House of Air at Crissy Field has been a place where gravity was optional,” the park said on social media, recalling the birthday parties, field trips, dodgeball rivalries, and other gatherings held there over the years.

“You filled this building with noise, sweat, and a whole lot of joy,” said the park.

Photo via House of Air/Google Maps

House of Air opened its doors in 2010 inside a converted airplane hangar, but transforming the historic building into a trampoline park was no small feat. The hangar was built in 1921 to support the Army’s 91st Observation Squadron, which flew De Havilland DH-4B biplanes, before later serving as a vehicle paint shop and Army offices and storage.

According to Architect Magazine, the Presidio’s protected status as a historic property placed strict limits on exterior alterations of the hangar, which complicated efforts to transform it into a modern recreation facility. The Presidio Trust also requires new work on the property to meet LEED green-building standards.

San Francisco architect Mark Horton, whose firm had previously studied designs for an aviation museum at Crissy Field that never came to fruition, was recommended to House of Air’s owners for the conversion. Much of the project’s budget reportedly went toward seismic upgrades to the building’s lightweight steel structure along with asbestos and other hazardous-material remediation.

House of Air/Google Maps

Despite having a small budget for the actual redesign, Horton persuaded the owners to invest the remaining funds in a 45-foot-wide folding glass door that replaced the original hangar door, bringing more light into the space and opening up the building, as Architect Magazine reported at the time.

House of Air thanked customers for helping make the building a gathering place for 16 years, calling the experience “the ride of a lifetime.”

Previously: More On Predisio Trampoline Park ‘House of Air’

After 16 years of bouncing, dodgeball games, and birthday parties inside a former military airplane hangar in the…

[30
101,103,102,104,106,105
post-499317","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-san-francisco","tag-san-francisco","tag-san-francisco-headlines","tag-san-francisco-news","tag-sf","tag-sf-headlines","tag-sf-news
["GET
