About Walt Disney Concert Hall

Few movie theaters can match the setup of Walt Disney Concert Hall. Frank Gehry designed the 2,265-seat auditorium with acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota, and the seating wraps around the stage under a billowing Douglas fir ceiling.

Outside, the stainless-steel “sails” came from a late redesign. Gehry first planned a stone building and switched to metal after the success of his Bilbao museum. The project began with Lillian Disney’s $50 million gift in 1987, and the hall opened in 2003.
