Conservancy is unlocking the doors to the historic Million Dollar Theater. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are offering a rare opportunity to watch classic films like \u2018The Shining\u2019 and \u2018Clue\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The birth of a cinema empire<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Opened in 1918, this magnificent venue is a cornerstone of local architecture. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was the very first theater built by Sid Grauman. Before he became famous for the iconic Egyptian and Chinese theaters, Grauman launched his cinematic empire right here on Broadway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Million Dollar Theater marked a massive shift in entertainment. According to Adrian Scott Fine, CEO of the L.A. Conservancy, earlier theaters were built for vaudeville and live performances. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Movie palaces were entirely different. They were built on a much grander scale to elevate the brand-new medium of cinema.<\/p>\n<p>More than just a movie<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These screenings are about more than what is on the screen. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conservancy\u2019s film series grants the public regular access to these shuttered architectural landmarks. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Attendees are consistently drawn to the incredible atmosphere and century-old history of the space.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ready to step back in time?
