The two men who were shot outside a Tower District<\/a> nightclub are expected to survive, Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto said in an update Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Casto said a large crowd had gathered in the Tower District to celebrate the Zombie Crawl when nine shots were fired around 12:17 a.m. outside MIA nightclub on Olive Avenue near Linden Avenue.<\/p>\n

Officers ran toward the gunfire and found two victims with non-life-threatening injuries, Casto said. One victim was released from the hospital, while the other was still being treated Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Casto said videos of the incident were pouring into her department. She said the shooting followed a dispute in which “a couple groups of people” exchanged words.<\/p>\n

“One very dramatically pulls out a firearm and fires those nine shots,” she said. “We’re very fortunate more people weren’t hit last night with the number of rounds fired in the Tower District.”<\/p>\n

Casto said she expects an arrest to be made “not very long” from now.<\/p>\n

One of the victims was standing in line to enter a nightclub when he was struck, Casto said.<\/p>\n

A woman is expected to be OK after she was injured, and it is unclear how she was hurt.<\/p>\n

Casto said the shooting was the fourth in the Tower District in the past six months.<\/p>\n

One recent shooting was fatal. Tyrone Miles<\/a>, 28, was killed on Sept. 26 near Olive and Linden avenues.<\/p>\n

Police later arrested a 19-year-old suspected in Miles’ killing.<\/p>\n

The others:<\/p>\n

On Aug. 9<\/a>, a man was wounded in a shooting Sunday in a Tower District neighborhood after two groups of people exchanged gunfire in Fresno in the area of Olive and Lucerne avenues.<\/p>\n

A shooting near Olive and Linden avenues injured a man and left a woman injured on May 24. A suspect was arrested in connection with the shooting.<\/p>\n

Police, Tower District businesses plan safety talks<\/p>\n

Casto said officers are constantly patrolling the Tower District.<\/p>\n

“The officers aren’t just standing around,” she said. “If you’re a big social media watcher, and you see our officers are contacting people regularly. They’re breaking up fights. They’re finding guns on people. We took a gun off a person in a car with loud music just last week. That happens regularly, weekly. The officers are out there contacting people. We’re making arrests. We’re solving crimes, but there’s more to it than that. There’s a philosophy.”<\/p>\n

Casto said police plan to meet with city officials at City Hall on Monday. A community meeting with Tower District businesses is also scheduled for this week.<\/p>\n

“We need to do more and we need to figure out what that looks like,” she said.<\/p>\n

Aaron Hightower, who lives in the Tower District, said he is tired of the violence. He said he watched a video of the incident.<\/p>\n

“If you watch the videos, there’s someone encouraging the violence, narrating and encouraging the violence. And it’s being monetized,” he said. “They feel emboldened to participate and even get excited about what’s happening. It’s some form of entertainment. It’s despicable.”<\/p>\n

MIA’s owners released a statement about the shooting outside their establishment:<\/p>\n

“Early this morning, violence occurred outside our establishment in the Tower District. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
