(FOX40.COM) \u2014 The recent surge in immigration enforcement<\/a> activity reached the Sacramento region this week as reports rolled in of detentions by suspected ICE agents.<\/p>\n

NorCal Resist, a community organization that has monitored U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in the region for nearly a decade, said agents detained “multiple” people in the Citrus Heights area Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Giselle Garcia, the group’s program director, told FOX40 that NorCal Resist has verified 27 detentions in the past 14 days \u2014 more than the 21 it normally records in a month. But Garcia believes the true number of ICE arrests is much higher than the number of completed detainment intakes.<\/p>\n

“In many of these incidents, folks reported 2-5 people being taken as collateral arrests, but if we do not complete a full intake with their families we do not include them in our total tally,” she said. “We estimate this number to be three times our tally of completed intakes.”<\/p>\n

A video shared by the group shows multiple people who appear to be ICE agents in vehicles in a parking lot. Earlier Wednesday morning, NorCal Resist reported that a person was detained at the Sunrise Mall.<\/p>\n

“We have a lot of ICE activity in Sacramento County today,” the group said in a Facebook post. “Please be cautious. Please leave your errands and shopping for another day. Please do not open the door to strangers.”<\/p>\n

The group also reported sightings of immigration enforcement agents in the nearby Sacramento County areas of Carmichael and Fair Oaks on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

In recent days, NorCal Resist also reported ICE activity in other parts of the region, including Yuba City, Marysville and Oroville, along with South Sacramento, North Highlands and parts of East Sacramento. FOX40 also received multiple reports of at least one suspected ICE detention in Stockton on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security told FOX40 the agency does not disclose or discuss operations, citing operational security and officer safety. However, the agency also noted several recent arrests, including the Stockton arrest of a man from South Korea who DHS said was convicted of homicide.<\/p>\n

“Every day, DHS enforces the laws of the nation across the country including in California,” the department spokesperson said in an email.<\/p>\n

The most high-profile ICE-related incident in the region this week came in Woodland, where police are investigating after a man said an immigration enforcement agent hit him with a car Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

The pedestrian, identified as Antonio Moreida, shared a GoPro video with FOX40 that captured the moment the vehicle made impact.<\/p>\n

In response to the collision, a DHS spokesperson said that ICE “did NOT hit a pedestrian” and accused the man of “flopping for the camera.”<\/p>\n

“An agitator jumped onto the hood of an ICE vehicle and the officer driving applied the brakes,” the spokesperson said in an email. “The agitator slid off the hood.”<\/p>\n

Garcia, however, told FOX40 that Moreida did not cause the incident.<\/p>\n

“They were not in any way ‘agitating’ or ‘instigating’ a violent reaction,” she said Tuesday. “They were just documenting, and ICE is not a fan of accountability.”<\/p>\n

Garcia said the incident came after what she described as a “massive surge” in street-level immigration enforcement since Oct. 8, around the time “Operation Safe California” began. At the time, the Washington Examiner<\/a> reported<\/a> that ICE leaders told agents to “go after anybody,” including those without criminal records.<\/p>\n
