{"id":504637,"date":"2026-10-22T21:22:15","date_gmt":"2026-10-22T21:22:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/504637\/"},"modified":"2026-10-22T21:22:15","modified_gmt":"2026-10-22T21:22:15","slug":"san-jose-community-pushes-to-rebuild-macsa-youth-center-nbc-bay-area-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/504637\/","title":{"rendered":"San Jose community pushes to rebuild MACSA youth center \u2013 NBC Bay Area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A San Jose neighborhood is working to rebuild a center that it says was the heart of the community.<\/p>\n<p>The building that once housed the MACSA youth center in the Mayfair <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcbayarea.com\/news\/local\/fire-vacant-san-jose-building\/3940479\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">community burned to the ground<\/a> in August of last year.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, community members told NBC Bay Area what the center meant to them and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, neighbors and activists have been pushing for it to be rebuilt to serve the community.<\/p>\n<p>In May, the rebuild was approved by the Alum Rock School District.<\/p>\n<p>Somos Mayfair was a major proponent of retaining the cultural aspect of the building that had been shuttered.<\/p>\n<p>San Jose City Councilmember Peter Ortiz also lent his voice to the cause.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;MACSA center was a safe place for our youth, especially the ones impacted in gangs,&#8221; Ortiz said.<\/p>\n<p>A MACSA input session will be held Thursday at the Mayfair Community Center from 4:30 to 7 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The session is directed at students and their families, as the goal is to create a youth center that will serve them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A San Jose neighborhood is working to rebuild a center that it says was the heart of the&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":504638,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[29],"tags":[88,90,89],"class_list":["post-504637","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-san-jose","tag-san-jose","tag-san-jose-headlines","tag-san-jose-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/504637","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=504637"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/504637\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/504638"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=504637"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=504637"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=504637"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
