The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on I-80 in Solano County, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The Tesla’s dash camera showed the man entering the interstate from the right shoulder as the car traveled about 70 mph, CHP said.

The Tesla braked, veered left and struck the man with the right front portion of the car, according to CHP.

At least one other vehicle later struck the man as he lay on the highway. First responders determined he had died from his injuries, per the SF Chronicle.

The 26-year-old driver from San Francisco stopped, cooperated with investigators and provided the dash camera footage, CHP said. No other drivers stopped at the scene.

The Tesla driver was not cited. CHP Officer Scott Heitman told the Chronicle that charges could be filed through the district attorney’s office if the investigation finds the driver was negligent in a way that caused the crash.
