Music fans who worried about the New Parish\u2019s closure late last year can rest assured that the Oakland venue won\u2019t be turning into condos. On Oct. 22, Oakland Theater Project<\/a> announced that it was taking over the San Pablo Avenue space and converting it into a hub for theater, music and performing arts.<\/p>\n

\u201cOakland is just a mecca of resilience \u2014 a passionate, incredible, diverse community \u2014 and it\u2019s full of creatives and artists,\u201d Oakland Theater Project Managing Director Colin Mandlin tells KQED. \u201cSo to be able to have people to share and present their work in their hometown \u2026 it\u2019s going to be this kind of common-sense but also really celebratory and wonderful accomplishment.\u201d<\/p>\n
