OAKLAND \u2014 A man fatally shot Wednesday morning in the San Antonio district of East Oakland was identified Thursday as Eugene Rutledge, 51, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Authorities did not have a confirmed address for him.<\/p>\n
The shooting, which prompted a gunshot detection alert system activation, happened about 1:28 a.m. Wednesday in the 2000 block of International Boulevard.<\/p>\n
Officers found Rutledge, who had been shot multiple times. He was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n
Police recovered multiple shell casings at the scene. It has not yet been determined if Rutledge was shot by someone who confronted him on the street or by someone in a passing vehicle, authorities said.<\/p>\n
A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No arrests have been made.<\/p>\n
The killing is the 42nd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 55 homicides in the city.<\/p>\n
