First responders were dispatched to the 800 block of West Katella Avenue in Anaheim, California, where the man was found unresponsive beneath the iconic blue arched Disneyland Resort entrance sign. The incident prompted a temporary sidewalk closure and attracted attention across social media, while the Anaheim Police Department said investigators did not suspect foul play.

Here are the details surrounding the Sunday afternoon investigation, the statements from local authorities, and the reported impact on operations at the Disneyland Resort.

Emergency Response at the Katella Avenue Entrance

According to information provided by Anaheim Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Eric Anderson, officers, and units from Anaheim Fire and Rescue responded at approximately 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

Near the theme park’s south entrance along Katella Avenue, emergency personnel located an unresponsive adult male. Paramedics administered aid, but the 65-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the man was known to be homeless in the area. Initial assessments indicated that he appeared to have died of natural causes, and police said they did not suspect foul play. The official cause and manner of death have not been publicly released.

His identity had not been publicly released as of the latest reports.

Investigation Under the Disneyland Sign Prompts Sidewalk Detours

The incident’s location drew attention from visitors walking to and from the theme parks. The man was found beneath the large, arched blue Disneyland Resort property sign on the Katella Avenue side of the resort, in the 800 block of West Katella Avenue.

To conduct the investigation, Anaheim police officers cordoned off a stretch of sidewalk. Pedestrians and families heading toward the resort or returning to nearby hotels were redirected around the closed section while officers documented the scene.

It was not immediately clear whether the death occurred on Disneyland property or on the public sidewalk beside it.

The Katella Avenue side of the resort sits across from the Anaheim Convention Center and serves as a walking route for guests staying at nearby hotels south of the parks. The temporary closure, therefore, required some pedestrians to take alternative routes.

Social Media Scanners Spark Viral Speculation

As emergency vehicles, police cruisers, and fire rescue trucks lined Katella Avenue, the incident attracted attention online.

Independent breaking-news accounts and emergency radio monitoring channels were among the first to flag the scene. Early scanner reports posted to X (formerly Twitter) by accounts such as @OC_Scanner alerted users to an unresponsive individual found in the Disneyland Resort area around 2:30 p.m., noting the police presence and reporting that personal items had been found nearby.

According to The Disney Scoop, the post had accumulated more than 400,000 views by Sunday night as theme park enthusiasts and tourists sought updates on whether the incident posed any safety threat to the surrounding resort.

Despite the attention online, the reported police activity remained concentrated near the resort’s outer perimeter. Anaheim police said they did not suspect foul play, and no impact on theme park operations was reported.

Park Operations Remain Unaffected

While emergency crews worked behind caution tape along the outer boundary, operations inside both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure continued.

The Disney Scoop reported that both theme parks remained open and were unaffected by the incident. The available reporting did not identify any interruption to internal theme park operations.

The police response on Katella also drew comparisons with an earlier incident that month involving suspicious items near Disneyland’s Harbor-East Shuttle Area. On October 12, suspicious bags prompted a bomb-squad response and temporary closures around the pedestrian Esplanade and nearby access routes. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad determined that the items contained no explosives, and the incident was resolved without a reported threat to the parks.

Although both incidents resulted in temporary access restrictions near the resort, authorities have not indicated that they were connected.

What Happens Next: The Coroner’s Investigation

While preliminary findings from the Anaheim Police Department indicated that the man appeared to have died of natural causes, the official cause and manner of death have not been publicly released.

The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner is responsible for determining the cause and manner of death in cases under its jurisdiction. The Disney Scoop reported that the formal process can take weeks. Still, the available information does not establish whether an autopsy or toxicology testing has been ordered in this particular case.

Anaheim Police Sgt. Anderson said investigators did not suspect foul play. Authorities had not announced whether further public updates would be provided once the investigation and any necessary coroner procedures were completed.
