A person was stabbed early Monday while riding a Muni bus in San Francisco’s Western Addition, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Officers responded around 1:13 a.m. to Laguna and McAllister streets after receiving a report of a stabbing, according to the San Francisco Police Department. Officers found a victim suffering from apparent stab wounds, provided aid and summoned medics, who took the person to a hospital. The injuries were not considered life-threatening.<\/p>\n
The suspect had fled before officers arrived, police said. Officers searched the area but did not find the suspect.<\/p>\n
The San Francisco Fire Department said firefighters and a private ambulance crew also responded and waited for police to secure the scene before treating the victim. The person was transported at 1:26 a.m., the department said.<\/p>\n
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said the safety of Muni riders and employees is its highest priority and that it works with SFPD on investigations when crimes occur on the system.<\/p>\n
“We’re grateful that the victim’s injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening and wish them a full recovery,” Erica Kato, a spokesperson for the agency, said in a statement Monday.<\/p>\n
SFMTA said reported aggravated assaults on Muni have declined from 1,089 police-investigated incidents in 2019 to 307 through July 2026, a decrease of nearly 72%.<\/p>\n
Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 beginning the message with “SFPD.”<\/p>\n
The incident comes about a month after another stabbing<\/a> aboard a Muni bus in San Francisco.<\/p>\n On Sept. 23, a passenger was stabbed in the neck and throat on a 14-Mission bus near 10th and Mission streets.<\/p>\n Prosecutors later charged 44-year-old San Francisco resident Glenn Hopkins with attempted murder <\/a>and other offenses.<\/p>\n Authorities said Hopkins attacked the passenger with a box cutter after the victim intervened when Hopkins was allegedly harassing two female passengers.<\/p>\n “Violence on our transit system is deeply concerning, and we remain committed to the safety and well-being of everyone who rides and works on Muni,” Kato added.<\/p>\n Subscribe<\/p>\n There’s more to San Francisco with the Chronicle.
