{"id":508840,"date":"2026-10-26T22:42:12","date_gmt":"2026-10-26T22:42:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/508840\/"},"modified":"2026-10-26T22:42:12","modified_gmt":"2026-10-26T22:42:12","slug":"san-francisco-man-convicted-of-conspiracy-to-commit-armed-carjacking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/508840\/","title":{"rendered":"San Francisco man convicted of conspiracy to commit armed carjacking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/GettyImages-545036967-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"764\" height=\"432\" loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-v-31bc2d2e=\"\"\/> article <\/p>\n<p data-v-31bc2d2e=\"\">(GERMANY OUT) gavel, hammer and book (Photo by Wodicka\/ullstein bild via Getty Images) <\/p>\n<p data-v-2c6143fb=\"\">SAN FRANCISCO &#8211; A federal jury on Thursday convicted a San Francisco man of conspiracy to commit an armed carjacking.<\/p>\n<p data-v-2c6143fb=\"\">Evidence presented at trial showed Cankun He, 32, conspired with two other individuals to target a cannabis courier transporting approximately $370,000 of cash in proceeds.<\/p>\n<p data-v-2c6143fb=\"\">He reportedly, on May 18, 2023, surveilled the area in Daly City where the courier was expected to arrive, and alerted his partners when the vehicle appeared.<\/p>\n<p data-v-2c6143fb=\"\">His collaborator, John Cantie, brandished a gun at a neighbor walking her children, then blocked the courier\u2019s van with a black SUV. Cantie held the courier at gunpoint while his partner Robert Maynard handcuffed him, then the two drove away with the cash and the van.<\/p>\n<p data-v-2c6143fb=\"\">Cantie and Maynard in July pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery affecting interstate commerce. Both are awaiting sentencing. He is being held in federal custody.<\/p>\n<p data-v-2c6143fb=\"\">He and two additional co-defendants are awaiting a second trial on an additional count of conspiracy to commit robbery affecting interstate commerce. That trial is scheduled to begin on Nov. 30.<\/p>\n<p data-v-2c6143fb=\"\">He faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.<\/p>\n<p> Prior arrests <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KTVU\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-2c6143fb=\"\">The backstory:<\/p>\n<p data-v-2c6143fb=\"\">Cantie, Maynard and He were indicted, along with two others, in August 2025.
