Following a nearly two-year closure, one of Los Angeles\u2019 oldest restaurants is reopening before the end of the year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The famous pancakes, fried potatoes and country-fried steak and eggs will once again be served at The Original Pantry Caf\u00e9 starting Nov. 19, according to the restaurant\u2019s website.<\/a> A 10 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony is set that day for the beloved downtown Los Angeles restaurant. The Pantry officials did not want to comment on the reopening of the restaurant. The news was first reported by SF Gate<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Pantry originally opened in 1924 and was previously owned by the late Richard Riordan, a former Los Angeles mayor who purchased it in 1981. It operated 24 hours a day seven days a week for most of its run, but the restaurant closed<\/a> on March 2, 2025 after a disagreement between the Richard J. Riordan Trust and workers who wanted to keep their jobs under the new trust ownership.<\/p>\n

But in September of that year it was announced that a new owner, real estate entrepreneur Leo Pustilnikov, would be reopening The Pantry as early as New Year\u2019s Eve 2025 and possibly return the restaurant to its 24 hours a day schedule. That deadline came and went but plans now call for operating hours to be Sunday-Thursday from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m.-11 p.m.<\/p>\n

The Pantry isn\u2019t the only classic Los Angeles restaurant to announce a reopening for this year.
