{"id":509254,"date":"2026-10-27T07:16:18","date_gmt":"2026-10-27T07:16:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/509254\/"},"modified":"2026-10-27T07:16:18","modified_gmt":"2026-10-27T07:16:18","slug":"oakland-considers-raising-minimum-wage-to-30-an-hour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/509254\/","title":{"rendered":"Oakland considers raising minimum wage to $30 an hour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oakland organizers with the <a href=\"https:\/\/livingwageforall.org\/campaigns\/alameda-county\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Living Wage for All Coalition<\/a> are pushing to increase the city\u2019s minimum wage in phases to $30 dollars an hour by 2037.<\/p>\n<p>Oakland\u2019s Rules and Regulations Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/oakland.legistar.com\/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=8295970&amp;GUID=6F1667E0-EB93-4EF1-8A45-2E839EFA4129&amp;Options=&amp;Search=\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">voted last Thursday<\/a> to bring the new minimum wage measure to the full city council in December.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cost of living is astronomical,&#8221; said Keala Uchoa, communications manager with the <a href=\"https:\/\/blackorganizingproject.org\/\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Black Organizing Project<\/a>, which helped lead the effort. &#8220;It is just completely out of pace with wages that have remained stagnant for decades. I\u2019ve watched every single one of my family members be displaced here because of the rising cost of living. Enough is enough. We need it now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When the measure comes to the full council on December 1, members could adopt the initiative directly, or put it on the ballot for voters, or they could request an economic impact study before making their final decision.<\/p>\n<p>The Alameda County Board of Supervisors voted in September to put a similar measure on the ballot for March 2028.
