The San Jose City Council is expected to finalize the renaming of what was once Plaza de Cesar Chavez on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The city covered the late labor leader’s name and removed the memorial plaque after serious and credible allegations of sexual abuse and assault were made against him.<\/p>\n
Since then, the city has worked with stakeholders to find a more appropriate way to honor the labor movement rather than one of the people behind it.<\/p>\n
After several community events and a public survey, two favorites emerged and will be combined as the final recommendation.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, the City Council will vote on whether to approve “Plaza del Pueblo de San Jose” as the new and permanent name of the downtown landmark.<\/p>\n
