<\/a>SACRAMENTO, Calif. \u2014<\/p>\nThe USL Championship playoffs start this weekend, and Sacramento Republic FC will start the Western Conference quarterfinals at home. <\/p>\n
Republic FC will face FC Tulsa Sunday, November 1, at Heart Health Park. In the regular season, the Republic were 1-1-1 against Tulsa. Sacramento won the first matchup on March 7 2-0, lost on the road 1-0 on August 5, and most recently played to a 1-1 draw on October 3. <\/p>\n
“This is the fifth time we’ve prepared for them because we prepared to play them and the game got postponed. So it feels like I’ve watched Tulsa just as much as I’ve watched our own team, and we know each other very well,” said Neill Collins, Sacramento Republic FC head coach. “I think the biggest difference is we play them at home in the first game, and I feel that it’s very different playing them at our home stadium than playing them at their home stadium because of the field that they use and the field that we have. But there’s lots to take from all of those games. There’s lots of dynamics. They’ll look to learn things from those games. We will. And I think our players, I’ll feel that if they go out and perform at the level that they’ve done at home, it isn’t a great situation to go in another game of football.” <\/p>\n
The Republic head into the postseason riding on a 13-match unbeaten streak dating back to early August, with the last loss coming against Tulsa. The players will focus on the process that got them to the second seed in the postseason. <\/p>\n
“I think when you get on a run like that, you’re not focusing on, you know, 2 or 3 games in advance. You’re not thinking about so much of like 5 or 6 games back,” said Jared Timmer, Sacramento Republic FC defender. “You’re just focusing on the next game at hand. I feel like that’s been our mentality right now. We got Tulsa this weekend on Sunday and we’re just preparing like we’ve been doing.”<\/p>\n
“We’ve been doing all the good things, the small things the right way in these games. And you know, we got to continue doing that. And I think that’s going to be our success in this game, is continuing doing the things that we’ve been working on for the past 2 or 3 months that, you know, been carrying this throughout the season,” said Memo Rodriguez, Sacramento Republic FC midfielder. <\/p>\n
Republic FC is 9-2-4 at home this season including a 3-2 comeback win in the regular season finale over Oakland Roots SC. <\/p>\n
“In front of our home fans that you know the supporters for 90 minutes that push us on. I mean you can see the last game. You know we felt their energy. Kyle gets the game winner, and you know the stadium erupts,” Rodriguez said. “I think we want that feeling again on Sunday because you know we want them to give that joy that they deserve. And you know obviously you know we want the goal is to win the championship. And you know we’re looking forward to Sunday.”<\/p>\n
“We love being at home. We love playing in front of our fans,” said Timmer. “We’re confident at home, we know what it’s like. Hopefully we can play as many games as possible these playoffs in it.” <\/p>\n
