{"id":515002,"date":"2026-11-01T11:34:15","date_gmt":"2026-11-01T11:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/515002\/"},"modified":"2026-11-01T11:34:15","modified_gmt":"2026-11-01T11:34:15","slug":"3-days-trapped-in-a-drain-pipe-officers-rescue-man-in-riverside","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/515002\/","title":{"rendered":"3 days trapped in a drain pipe &#8212; officers rescue man in Riverside"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A man in Riverside was rescued from an 18-inch underground drain pipe Saturday after being trapped there for three days, according to Riverside police. <\/p>\n<p>Riverside police and fire departments responded to a call around 11:40 a.m. about \u201ca reported person inside a drain tunnel screaming for help,\u201d according to an incident report.<\/p>\n<p>Riverside Fire Department Division Chief Greg White said the man was 20 feet into the pipe and \u201cunable to free himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a small pipe,\u201d said  Capt. Steve Hallgreen, public information officer with the department, so it sounds like he got stuck \u201cdue to the size.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            <img class=\"image\" alt=\"Riverside City Fire and Riverside Police Departments work the scene where a man was stuck inside a drain pipe.\"   width=\"1200\" height=\"789\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/11\/1793532855_862_.jpeg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>         <\/p>\n<p>Riverside City Fire and Riverside Police Departments work the scene where a man was stuck inside a drain pipe.<\/p>\n<p>(OnScene.TV)<\/p>\n<p>Crews took about 2 hours to get the man out as they assembled a technical rescue team and the right equipment, Hallgreen said. The incident report states help also was requested from Corona Urban Search and Rescue. <\/p>\n<p>Video from OnScene.TV shows a number of first responders at the scene preparing gear. They also had to remove considerable debris from the pipe first.<\/p>\n<p>It appears the man may have entered the pipe from a canal that runs along the train tracks near  Commerce and Cottage streets in Riverside, Hallgreen said. The pipe lies below surface and runs parallel to the ground, draining into the canal. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was brought out the same way that he went in,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The man was initially treated on the scene for unspecified injuries and transported to a local hospital,  where he was listed as stable.
