Santa Ana Canyon Road, the store has been a supermarket for over 30 years. <\/p>\n The store opened in 1993 as a Pavilions, before being converted to a Vons in 2020. Both Vons and Pavilions are owned by Albertsons.<\/p>\n \u201cClosing a store is always a tough decision and one we do not take lightly,\u201d a Vons spokesperson told the Post. \u201cLike other retailers, we continuously evaluate store performance and market dynamics, and with our focus on growth, occasionally\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0necessary to close locations that\u00a0aren\u2019t growing or meeting financial expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n The Orange County store, which also houses a bakery, deli, and pharmacy, will be replaced by a Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods, a local social media sleuth first reported<\/a>. An employee who did not want to be identified confirmed the switch to the Post. <\/p>\n The location\u2019s employees were told that they would be transferred to other stores rather than fired. <\/p>\n The pharmacy will close to the public on December 18.<\/p>\n Vons is currently \u201cworking to identify opportunities\u201d to transfer the 76 employees at the store to other locations, the company said. <\/p>\n The closure news comes as the nearest Vons location, just up the 91 Freeway, is scheduled to have a grand re-opening on January 8, 2027 \u2014\u00a0after getting a remodel.<\/p>\n Vons has another location just a short drive away along Route 91. The San Diego Union-Tribune via Getty Images<\/p>\n Shoppers in the immediate area appeared to be shocked <\/a>by the sad news of the closure.<\/p>\n \u201cSuch a bummer. It\u2019s so nice having a grocery store in the [plaza]!!\u201d one shopper wrote on a popular Instagram post<\/a> announcing the shutdown.<\/p>\n \u201cHad a feeling they were getting ready to shut down when the Panda Express inside closed,\u201d said another commenter.<\/p>\n \u201cSuper bummed. I love the pharmacy there. I hate CVS. I like that the Festival Vons is bigger.
