Eight of 15 measures Orange County cities had on their ballots asked voters about sources of revenue, and only one is losing at this point.<\/p>\n
Some are looking to increase targeted taxes such as those tacked onto a night\u2019s stay in a hotel, while others are looking to bolster city coffers with local sales taxes. All of these measures need only a simple majority in favor to win<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s how things are going as of the latest OC Registrar of Voters update on ballot counting \u2014 results will now be posted daily at 5 p.m., except on weekends, until the counting is complete:<\/p>\n
Costa Mesa\u2019s Measure C<\/a>:\u00a0It\u2019s had strong support so far, more than 70%, as votes are tallied.<\/p>\n The measure decides whether businesses in the city that make more than $500,000 a year in revenue should pay a higher business license tax.<\/p>\n Los Alamitos\u2019 Measure G<\/a>: With more than 66% of voters in favor at this point, the measure is on track to win.<\/p>\n The measure proposes to increase the city\u2019s transient occupancy tax, or hotel tax, from 8% to 12%.<\/p>\n Orange\u2019s Measure I<\/a>:\u00a0Where a majority of Orange voters have blocked a local sales tax in the past, this measure is showing enough support, more than 54%, so far to pass.<\/p>\n The measure would create a local one-cent sales tax with a 13-year lifespan.<\/p>\n Orange\u2019s Measure J<\/a>:\u00a0The city\u2019s voters, as of current vote tallies, are also keen to pass this measure, with nearly 59% in favor at this point.<\/p>\n The measure would increase the city\u2019s transient occupancy tax, or hotel tax, from 10% to 14%.<\/p>\n Placentia\u2019s Measure L<\/a>:\u00a0There is strong support among voters, more than 61% in favor, for this measure, which is on its way to passing.<\/p>\n The measure would increase the city\u2019s transient occupancy tax, or hotel tax, from 10% to 14%.<\/p>\n San Clemente\u2019s Measure M<\/a>: For a second time, a majority of the city\u2019s voters are opposing a local sales tax. More than 63% are opposed as of ballots tallied so far.<\/p>\n The measure decides whether a 1% local sales tax should be collected to generate revenue split between a city \u201cbeach protection fund\u201d and \u201cfire protection and wildfire preparedness.\u201d<\/p>\n
