Civil rights activist and labor rights trailblazer Dolores Huerta will lie in honor at the California State Capitol later this month, following her recent death. <\/p>\n

Huerta, who co-founded the National Farmworkers Association, died on Oct. 28 at 96 years old. <\/p>\n

The public lie in honor event for Huerta was announced Thursday by California Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas and Senate President pro Tempore Monique Lim\u00f3n. People can pay their respects to Huerta on Monday, Nov. 16, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Capitol.<\/p>\n

Huerta was born in New Mexico but grew up in Stockton. She was inducted into the California Hall of Fame in 2013.<\/p>\n

She founded the Stockton Community Service organization at age 25 after spending much of her childhood in the city. She is credited with coming up with the farmworker rallying cry \u201cS\u00ed, se puede,\u201d which means yes we can. <\/p>\n

“The impact Dolores Huerta made on the state and this nation was immeasurable. She was a national leader in the fight for workplace rights and an inspiration to millions of workers across the country,” Lim\u00f3n said in a release.<\/p>\n
