Garden City closed out its regular season in impressive fashion on Halloween, traveling to Long Beach and coming away with a convincing 28-0 shutout victory. The Trojans delivered a strong all-around performance, combining an effective offense with a defense that never allowed the Marines to find the end zone.

The first quarter was a defensive battle, with neither team able to put points on the board. Garden City’s defense made several important stops, including a quarterback sack by Luke Agrippina and another by Andrew Dengler to close out the opening quarter. Michael Desiderio also helped bring down the Long Beach quarterback as the Trojans kept the game scoreless.

Garden City broke through in the second quarter, taking a 7-0 lead on a touchdown by Christian Roddini. Mark Escher added the extra point with 8:50 remaining in the half. The Trojans continued to build momentum, and with just 26 seconds left before halftime, Brayden Robertiello made an impressive play, scrambling toward the sideline before getting a pass off to Roddini, who hauled it in for a touchdown. Escher added the extra point, sending Garden City into halftime with a 14-0 advantage.

The Trojans picked up right where they left off after the break. Roddini broke loose for an explosive 50-yard run, putting Garden City in excellent field position. Later in the third quarter, Kosta Walsh hauled in a 35-yard pass from Robertiello to move the Trojans inside the Long Beach 20-yard line. Robertiello finished the drive with a touchdown run, and Escher’s extra point extended the lead to 21-0 with 2:19 remaining in the quarter.

Garden City’s defense continued to dominate, with Thomas Bacich recording a quarterback sack to help close out the third quarter. The Trojans also came up with another important stop on fourth down as Long Beach struggled to generate offense.

In the fourth quarter, Garden City added to its lead with another big defensive play. Mason Murphy intercepted a Long Beach pass, giving the Trojans possession deep in Marines territory. The offense took advantage, as CJ Rogler raced up the sideline, narrowly avoiding being forced out of bounds. He stopped, stepped back, cut to his left and darted into the open field for a spectacular 65-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 27-0. Escher converted the extra point to make it 28-0.

The Trojans now turn their attention to the playoffs as they prepare to host New Hyde Park on Friday, November 6, at 2:30 p.m. The game will also celebrate Senior Day, giving the Garden City community an opportunity to recognize and support the team’s graduating players. A big turnout is encouraged as the Trojans begin their postseason run.

A special thank-you goes to Carvel on Nassau Boulevard and owner Joe Errigo for generously donating ice cream for the team’s Monday film night. The team and coaching staff greatly appreciate Carvel’s generosity!
