SACRAMENTO, Calif. \u2014 A Sacramento teenager is facing federal charges after authorities say he received and distributed child sexual abuse material while living near an elementary school.<\/p>\n
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, a federal grand jury returned a 2-count indictment Thursday against Jayden Virgil Thomas, 19, of Sacramento. The indictment charges Thomas with receiving and distributing child sexual abuse material.<\/p>\n
Court documents state Thomas received and distributed video files of child sexual abuse material on multiple occasions in June 2026. Thomas committed these offenses while residing 0.2 miles from an elementary school.<\/p>\n
The investigation began after law enforcement received a tip indicating that Thomas possessed child sexual abuse material. The Federal Protective Service, Homeland Security Investigations, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Hi-Tech Unit of the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office conducted the investigation.<\/p>\n
Thomas is also facing a separate case in the Eastern District of California involving charges of destruction of government property and assault on federal officers. According to court documents in that case, Thomas damaged government property at 650 Capitol Mall in Sacramento on Jan. 7, 2026, and again on June 25, 2026.<\/p>\n
During the June incident, Thomas assaulted 4 federal officers who responded to the scene and attempted to make an arrest. A subsequent search of a cellphone seized during that arrest revealed more than 100 videos depicting child sexual abuse material.<\/p>\n
If convicted of either of the child sexual abuse material counts, Thomas faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison with a mandatory minimum of 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. In the separately charged case, if convicted of assault on a federal officer or depredation against property of the United States, Thomas faces a maximum statutory penalty of up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $100,000.<\/p>\n
The charges are only allegations.
