{"id":521652,"date":"2026-11-07T10:50:20","date_gmt":"2026-11-07T10:50:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/521652\/"},"modified":"2026-11-07T10:50:20","modified_gmt":"2026-11-07T10:50:20","slug":"long-beach-theatre-guild-brings-sensory-friendly-performance-to-lindell-elementary-herald-community-newspapers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/521652\/","title":{"rendered":"Long Beach Theatre Guild brings sensory-friendly performance to Lindell Elementary | Herald Community Newspapers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liherald.com\/stories\/long-beach-theatre-guild-directs-100th-play,4200\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Long Beach Theatre Guild<\/a> will present a sensory friendly performance of \u201cOliver\u201d \u2014 a stage and film musical adapted from Charles Dicken\u2019s 1838 novel \u201cOliver Twist,\u201d with book, music and lyrics written by Lionel Bart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The guild, founded in 1972, has staged more than 100 musicals and plays and, five years ago, was inspired by a former member of its board to host performances for children with sensory sensitivities and processing challenges. The board member, a theater fan, wanted her autistic son, and other neurodivergent residents, to enjoy plays and musicals as most would.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt\u2019s special because it addresses a community need where people who normally wouldn\u2019t get to go to the theater can get to go to the theater,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liherald.com\/baldwin\/stories\/sensory-special-production-of-oz,151230\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nancy Gallinaro<\/a>, the guild\u2019s president and director said. \u201cDuring these performances, the guest is trained to be cognizant of the fact that [distractions] might happen. The volunteers in the audience can bring the individual to a quiet room or bring them to someplace where they might feel a little more comfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOliver\u201d will be held in Lindell Elementary School\u2019s theater, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m.; the sensory-friendly performance, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m.; Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">At this year\u2019s sensory performance, the guild will provide assistive learning devices so audience members can tailor the sound as needed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOur performances are part of an amazing community program where over 63 adults and children are on stage,\u201d Gallinaro said. \u201cYour neighbors, your friends, your family, on stage performing.
